Umuganda: A Parish, Park, Farm Workday

  • New Garden Park 5572 Garden Village Way Greensboro, NC 27410 (map)

In Rwanda, the entire country takes one Saturday a month to do community service projects - roads are shut down, and everyone is mandated to spend time working alongside one another. They call that day Umuganda, which means “come together” in kinyarwandan. Now, we won’t be instituting fines for not attending like the Rwandan government, but we want to learn from their intentionality and set aside regular times for us to do projects around our Parish, Park and Farm.

One Saturday morning each month we will have our own Umuganda day from 8am-12pm - you can come for the whole time or come for an hour. We will have a hot breakfast at the beginning ($2/person) and a short time of morning prayer together before breaking out to various jobs and projects.

October 5 - Come kick off our first Umuganda day with a slightly earlier breakfast (7:30am) and conversation with Bishop Manasseh & Maddie Uwamahoro from the Gahini diocese in Rwanda! They will begin our time sharing on the impact of our 10-year relationship with the Gahini parish as well as exciting future developments!
