Webers in Rwanda: July 2024 Missions Update

In March 2023, we sent out Ben and Cherie Weber—and 6 of their children—as missionaries with our sister diocese in Gahini, Rwanda. Their role is to strengthen our mission partnership and relationship with our sister parish through Friends of Gahini! July was busier than expected for the Webers—they started surveying some of the church-run schools in the Diocese of Gahini (and blew a tire on their van while driving on the rough roads), attended the Kumbaya Conference, and started preparing to host the Redeemer to Rwanda team coming in early August! June 28 was International TCK (Third Culture Kid) Day. This month, SAMS gifted us a virtual TCK debrief to help us all process together the highs and lows of living in a different culture.
Praises:
Our car did survive all the trips to remote schools! We had a donut that was able to take us the rest of the way and we had a spare at home that allowed us to go out the next day.
Our partnerships are growing and God is opening doors for us to minister to the church-run schools.
Although we have been very busy, we feel prepared to enter our busiest month!
Prayer Requests:
Pray that God provides the money to buy a new vehicle quickly.
July 28-August 3 - Kumbya Conference. Pray for safe travels, rest, rejuvenation, and good memories.
August 7-16 - A team from 3 of our partner churches will be here. Please pray for safe travel, health, and a blessed time as they deepen relationships with their sister churches.
August 13-15 - Pastors Conference and Youth Meetings. The team will be leading a pastors conference for all the pastors in Gahini. Part of the team will also be holding youth meetings at the same time.
August 19-23 - SAMS is holding a retreat for all their East African missionaries. Cherie's parents will be flying in on Aug 15 to help watch our kids during that retreat.
August 29-Sept 1 - We will be flying with Mae to Kenya to settle her in at Rift Valley Academy. Cherie's parents will stay with the rest of the kids.
Financial Update
The Webers are raising $35,000 to purchase a ministry vehicle with 4-wheel drive to more safely travel to the churches and schools across the diocese, and navigate the rural roads.
