Webers in Rwanda: August 2024 Missions Update

Day one of the pastors' conference held in Gahini, hosted by the Redeemer to Rwanda team, and two other churches from the Diocese of Christ our Hope.

In March 2023, we sent out Ben and Cherie Weber—and 6 of their children—as missionaries with our sister diocese in Gahini, Rwanda. Their role is to strengthen our mission partnership and relationship with our sister parish through Friends of Gahini! Each month, they send an update of their ministry work and life as a family adapting to a new culture. If you’d like to receive their monthly updates to your inbox, you can sign up here!

August brought the unexpected—church closures across Rwanda. In this month’s newsletter, they share more about how that unfolded just as the Redeemer to Rwanda team was preparing to arrive. They also share about the pastors conferences held, hosting Cherie’s parents, and dropping Mae off in Kenya to begin high school. You can find their praises and prayer requests below, and read the whole update with more photos and details here!

June 28 was International TCK (Third Culture Kid) Day. This month, SAMS gifted us a virtual TCK debrief to help us all process together the highs and lows of living in a different culture.

Praises:

  • The month went smoothly with only brief illnesses.

  • The team enjoyed their trip and several of them are hoping to come back in the future!

  • The pastors conference was very timely and successful.

  • Cherie's parents visited with no incidents or sickness.

  • Mae is settling in at RVA.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for our continued adjustment to Mae being at school. It is hard on all of us.

  • Schools here in Rwanda started this week. Please pray for all the students and teachers. Pray especially for the church schools that have their churches closed.

  • Homeschool also started this week! We are off to a great start, so pray that it continues and that we all adjust well to our new schedule.

  • Pray for our Bishop and the pastors as they navigate this difficult season.

Financial Update
The Webers are raising $35,000 to purchase a ministry vehicle with 4-wheel drive to more safely travel to the churches and schools across the diocese, and navigate the rural roads.
